2012-2013 Season Preview: Wyoming

Wyoming basketball will open the 2012-2013 season against Western State on November 10 in Laramie. The Cowboys will put a team on the floor that hopes to match the performance of last year's squad. They will be replacing 55% of last season's minutes with the expected contributions of four incoming freshmen.

The biggest gap for Wyoming to fill will be on the offensive side, as the team lost 66.4% of their assists. Following that is scoring, where they drop 49.7% from last season's numbers.

Wyoming played to a final overall record of 20-10 last season, placing 6th in the Mountain West with their 6-8 conference record. The Cowboys lost to UNLV 56-48 in the Mountain West tournament. Wyoming will feel the loss of many of last year's seniors including Francisco Cruz (32 minutes per game), JayDee Luster (29 MPG), Adam Waddell (28 MPG), and Arthur Bouedo (11 MPG). The Cowboys will also miss Tyrone Marshall (4 MPG), who left the team.

Returning for the Cowboys are senior Luke Martinez (1.5 assists/game), senior Leonard Washington (12.9 points/game), sophomore Larry Nance Jr (4.1 points/game), senior Derrious Gilmore (1.1 assists/game), and sophomore Riley Grabau (0.9 points/game).

The Cowboys get new blood including freshmen 6-4 Aaron Tyser, 6-2 Josh Adams, 6-9 Austin Haldorson, and 6-5 Jason McManamen. The team also picks up 6-9 sophomore Derek Cooke Jr, 6-4 junior Nathan Sobey, 6-5 junior Charles Hankerson Jr (transferred from Alabama), and 6-10 sophomore Matt Sellers.

The Cowboys schedule includes four games against AP preseason Top 25 teams. The first three are #20 San Diego State on January 19th, at #18 UNLV on January 24th, and at #20 San Diego State on February 19th. The first Mountain West game for Wyoming will be on January 9th against Boise State.
